Security Pitfalls and Misconception

Presented at SOURCE Seattle 2017, Oct. 4, 2017, 3:30 p.m. (90 minutes)

The vast majority of people have many misconceptions about security. This causes security decisions to be made based on incorrect or inaccurate assumptions, and impedes our ability to effectively communicate important security topics to those who most need to hear it. In this interactive session, you will learn about some of the most common misconceptions, have a chance to contribute some of your own, and most important, learn some clear examples and strategies for how to get past the misconceptions and better communicate security ideas to others. We will cover: - Common misconceptions around security, why they are dangerous, and what you can do about it - How to get to the heart of the issue and avoid getting "lost in the weeds" - How to clearly communicate security information to both technical and non-technical people If you’ve ever struggled to communicate security ideas to other people, this is a session you won’t want to miss.
