Privacy Concerns in Android Applications

Presented at ToorCon San Diego 16 (2014), Oct. 26, 2014, 2:30 p.m. (20 minutes)

There are currently over 900 Million Android devices running any number of third party applications. Most users, and many security professionals are unaware of the specifics of the Android permission model and how it impacts your privacy. This talk will explore the permission model and exactly what malicious companies know about you, how they know it, and how you can do the same thing. We will explain how to build an app to collect and interpret data from the accelerometer, barometer, GPS, Task, Accounts, Contacts, and Call Log.
