Courage from a Zero Day Inside

Presented at BSidesDC 2019, Oct. 26, 2019, 2:30 p.m. (50 minutes)

Close calls. Emergency situations. Team failures. 0-day response. We encounter these regularly. We prepare. What if the worst case scenario happens, then happens again? What do you call on then? Listen as I describe what skills remained to rebuild my internal working structure when I was wiped to having the abilities of a 6-mo. Courage comes in many forms. Resourcefulness and architecting personal and professional triumphs come from what you have on hand in the moment. Sharing my experience and how I created a binary electrical system using my tongue against my teeth will show: (1) You are more prepared than you imagine, (2) your human team is amazing, (3) your purpose is clearly defined for you every moment, (4) you have resources even when nothing is going your way.

Presenters:

  • Mandy Logan
Following 5 strokes and major injuries, Mandy is no longer in construction engineering. She used her life hacking prowess (ex: skipped 5 years of K-12 school, worked on a ranch, then graduated traditional HS in 2.5 yrs with 4.2 GPA) to re-establish neuro control using her tongue against her teeth and her electrical system. Now, as a happy dyslexic autistic person she pursues Biohacking, Neurological Integration, AGI, and Community, pressing forth to improve the lives of those she meets. She enjoys art, travel, naps, laughing, and hopes to be half the person her service dog, Trevor, is.
