Act and Think like an Epidemiologist to Combat Digital Diseases

Presented at BSidesDC 2016, Oct. 22, 2016, 4:30 p.m. (50 minutes).

My presentation is about changing the way we communicate and the way we tackle the digital disease problem today. I'd like to see a move from sickness management to wellness management to prevent digital disease in the first place. Why not leverage the investigation techniques used for researching measles, smallpox, cholera and most recently Ebola. Epidemiologists have been fighting the invisible for over a century, we can learn from them and apply their investigative techniques and communications style. I'd like to speak to any security professionals that are responsible for interacting with management and users. I'd like to show how a different way to communicate to management and users can help our desk-side manner. If the users trust their digital doctor, they are more likely to follow the docs advice.
