Hunting Electronic Foxes

Presented at BalCCon2k22 - Loading (2022), Sept. 24, 2022, noon (57 minutes)

A lecture and a practical workshop for "Fox Hunting". A small, low-power transmitter is hidden and you try to find it. Sound simple? It can be very challenging and a whole lot of fun. The direction-finding skills learned in this activity can be very valuable in locating a repeater jammer, or a lost hiker. We will provide both foxes and direction finders. Basic lecture on the theory of electronic fox hunting followed by the real thing - trying to find hidden radio beacons using knowledge gained in presentation and workshop. Oh and have we mentioned that there will be an epic treasure hunt that would require knowledge of electronic Fox hunting? ;)

Presenters:

  • Aleksandar Bakalov
Proud Amateur radio operator and evangelist. When not programming boring stuff for big 'evil' corp likes to tinker with all things digital and a bit of older 'tech' also (like 10 000 old 'pottery technology' trying to mix it with hardware like clay 3d printers and trying to mix traditional arts with digital arts).
