Identifying assets on modern networks is more complicated than ever due to the adoption of software defined networks, virtual machine environments, container environments, hybrid clouds, and internet-connected smart devices. This presentation dives into original research and lesser-known techniques that can be used to quickly discovery devices across complex environments, without the use of passive traffic analysis or credentials.

**H D Moore** is network security expert, [open source](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open-source_software "Open-source software") programmer, and [hacker](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hacker_(programmer_subculture) "Hacker (programmer subculture)"). He is a developer of the Metasploit Framework, a [penetration testing](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penetration_testing "Penetration testing") [software suite](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_suite "Software suite"), and the founder of the [Metasploit Project](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metasploit_Project "Metasploit Project").
He served as Chief Research Officer at [Boston](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boston "Boston"), [MA](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massachusetts "Massachusetts") based security firm [Rapid7](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rapid7 "Rapid7"), a provider of security data and analytics software and cloud solutions. He remained the chief architect of the Metasploit Framework until his departure from Rapid7 in 2016.[[1]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H._D._Moore#cite_note-RSA_Conference-1) Since leaving [Rapid7](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rapid7 "Rapid7"), Moore has joined Atredis Partners as the Vice President of Research and Development[[2]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H._D._Moore#cite_note-2) and founded Critical Research Corporation[[3]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H._D._Moore#cite_note-3), the software firm that develops Rumble Network Discovery[[4]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H._D._Moore#cite_note-4).
