Social Network Analysis: A scary primer

Presented at ShmooCon XV (2019), Jan. 19, 2019, 3:30 p.m. (30 minutes).

Everywhere you go, who and what you associate with says a lot about you. Your friends, your families, your business contacts, and your ideological associations all are valuable information to a variety of businesses and government agencies. We will explore ways to collect, analyze, and visualize a social network as well as look at how this network changes with time. This talk will cover how this all can be tied together to tell a lot of interesting stories about you and others around you.

Some unconventional data fusion techniques will also be covered. Additional data sources, such as real-world sensors as well as the additional joy that is people willingly handing over their personal information for coupons or other retail ‘perks,’ are also in scope. Really, everything is fair game.
