Which Security Role is Right for Me?

Infosec is an industry of diverse professionals, and the roles available are equally diverse. Even after one decides to pursue a career in cyber security, navigating through the myriad job types that exist can be daunting. The speakers, Damon "ch3f" Small and Paul Love, will reflect on their decades of experience in the industry and offer guidance as to how a candidate can focus their job search in specific areas of infosec. From red team, to blue team, to consulting, compliance, and management, there is a role for everyone. Attendees will have ample time for Q&A after the speakers' prepared remarks, will gain a greater understanding of professional opportunities that exist, and will learn ow to determine which type of role may be best for themselves.

  • Paul Love
    Paul is the Chief Information Security & Privacy Officer at a financial services organization. Paul holds a Master's of Science in Network Security degree, has authored/co-authored nine books on Information Security and Unix/Linux and has been the technical editor of 11 books on Linux and Unix.
  • Damon J. Small as Damon "ch3f" Small
    Damon Small began his career studying music at Louisiana State University. Leveraging computer skills learned in the LSU recording studio, he became a systems administrator in the mid 1990s. In 2005, he completed a Master of Science in Information Assurance degree from Norwich University. Small's 25 years as a security professional has involved initiatives in the healthcare, defense, aerospace, and oil and gas industries. As Technical Director at NCC Group, he works closely with consultants and clients delivering complex security assessments that meet varied business requirements.
