  • Philip Doty - Associate Dean & Associate Professor - School of Information
    Philip Doty (pdoty@ischool.utexas.edu) is Associate Dean and Associate Professor at the School of Information at the University of Texas at Austin and earned his PhD from Syracuse University's School of Information Studies. He is an Associate Director of the Technology and Information Policy Institute and Faculty Affiliate of the Center for Women's and Gender Studies at UT-Austin. His research and teaching focus on federal information policy, especially copyright, privacy, government surveillance and secrecy, and networked communication. Sponsors of his research have included the Texas Office of Court Administration, the Verizon Foundation, the Congressional Office of Technology Assessment, NASA, Syracuse University, the Snow Foundation, SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, the Council on Library Resources/Kellogg Foundation, and the U.S. Office of Management and Budget. With faculty colleagues, he secured more than $1.2M in funding from the federal Institute for Museum and Library Services to support the first doctoral fellowship program in cultural preservation in the U.S. He has won the Texas Excellence in Teaching award four times and has co-taught classes at UT with faculty members in the LBJ School of Public Affairs, the College of Communication, the UT System General Council's Office, and the College of Engineering.
