Legislative Concerns and Direction for Student Data Privacy, Security and Filtering Development and How Data Security Professionals Can Help

In this session, Senator Weiler will discuss and provide his perspective regarding the following tropics: * The current state of legislative process of developing policy for Utah student data privacy, security and filtering. * A review of the past Utah legislation addressing data security/privacy and content filtering for Utah students. * A look at possible policy in this upcoming legislative session for data privacy/security and content filtering for Utah students. * What does the legislative long-term future (5 years from now) look like for cyber security, student filtering, privacy and other issues? (what is the role of the school administrator, teacher, parent, student and technology play in this long-term future plan?) * Review of Senator Weiler’s legislation - S.B. 185 “Cause for Action for Minors Injured by Pornography” (provide background, how the bill is working and benefits/successes) * Senator Weiler’s perspective as a state legislator, parent, involvement in business and community, what are the biggest concerns and how can we help to identify and solve privacy, data security, identity theft, and other pressing issues.

  • Senator Todd Weiler - Utah State Legislature
    Todd Weiler is a Republican member of the Utah State Senate. Weiler holds a bachelor's degree in business and a law degree, both from Brigham Young University. He lives in Woods Cross, Utah. Weiler was first appointed to the state senate in January 2012.
