As a defender, I’m often asked “Is this message legitimate?” As attackers become more clever, determining the legitimacy of email messages can be a real challenge. And, after we spend time discerning fraud in digital technology what better way to get away than in the second part of the talk where we return to a time before it all existed? The first part of this talk will examine e-mail headers and how to determine legitimate messages from those that could lead to fraud or identity theft. The second part will explore what it’s like living in the Current Middle Ages as a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism.
