Lots of people are interested in cybersecurity, it's the new hotness. But cybersecurity is big and scary and hard, so how is a regular person supposed to start learning? There's no way that a regular person could get started in cyber without expensive training and certifications, or lengthy courses and degrees right? Wrong. In this presentation I'll cover how I founded LSU's first cybersecurity student organization and all the training that came with it. I'll not only go over what tools you need and what to start with, but also how to build and populate entire virtual simulated networks for penetration testing exercises to provide a safe environment to practice in. This will obviously require covering several cybersecurity and networking topics, as well as virtualization and containers. At the end I'll provide everyone with a comprehensive list of all of my resources including a library of virtual machines.
