Security of Industrial Control Systems: How IEC 62443 Can Help

Presented at Kernelcon 2019, April 5, 2019, 2 p.m. (50 minutes)

The IEC 62443 series of standards describes a set of industrial control system security standards that apply to asset owners, system integrators, and product suppliers. There are substantial challenges in applying these standards to existing technologies, but adoption of these standards is beginning to be seen as table stakes by the discrete manufacturing and process communities. This talk will discuss a high level overview of the IEC 62443 series of standards, and some of the challenges in applying them to an industrial control environment. Specific focus will be placed on new initiatives in the industry as a result of a renewed focus on cybersecurity.
