Multiple DJ's in one tent: decide what you hear by walking around, not by wearing a device

Presented at May Contain Hackers (MCH2022), July 22, 2022, 11 p.m. (120 minutes)

The sound system in the Abacus stage is promoted as 'a new era'. It allows for directional audio, aka "beams". During this session we're taking this to the next level. For the first time ever (anywhere), there will be multiple dj's playing in a single tent, right next to each other. By just walking a few meters, you switch from hearing only DJ A to DJ B... and so on. No devices needed.

The Netherlands is over-saturated with dance festivals that all want something new, so it's an honor to be able to put a new generation audio system to the test.

This audio system is set up in the Abacus stage and is sponsored by Holoplot. Their mission is to provide 'a new era' in audio. During this talk we're putting that claim to the test.

This will will happen in a way that has never been done before on a festival. Multiple DJ's will play their tunes, in the same tent, right next to each other. As a visitor you only have to move a few meters to immersed from one style of music to the other. You don't need to wear a device or anything. It's like there is an invisible wall that separates the audio. And exactly that 'invisible wall' is what you can experience during this session.
