Modern societies face problems that cannot be solved with the traditional way of policing. The numbers of cyber offenders are rising, the damage they cause is alarming and the average age of offenders is declining. The police simply cannot arrest themselves out of cybercrime. The relationship between hackers and law enforcement is often perceived as somewhat adversarial. There may be historical reasons for this, which are perhaps amplified by how each side is portrayed by the media and popular fiction. But just as law enforcement has recognized the value of public-private partnerships in their fight against crime, it has become apparent that the hacker community has a lot to offer to the prevention of juvenile cybercrime. In this talk Project Lead and Inspector of the National Bureau of Investigation share their thoughts and experience on how to increase and cultivate the dialogue and trust between young enthusiasts, the infosec community and the police for the prevention of cybercrime.

Viivi Lehtinen
Viivi Lehtinen is a Project Leader (MSSc.) of Cybercrime Exit - Cyber Offender Prevention program of the Finnish Police which is run from the Cybercrime Centre of the National Bureau of investigation. She is experienced in governmental security institutes and management of inter-administrative projects. Viivi entered the world of cyber in 2020, and loves to combine human and technical approach to prevent juvenile cybercrime.

Aki Somerkallio
Inspector at the National Bureau of Investigations Cybercrime Exit -project since 2022. Cybercrime Exit is a cybercrime offender prevention program that started in 2020. Specialised within the project about cybercrime in digital gaming sphere and coordinator of law enforcement training regarding juvenile cybercrime. Prior to that working as a senior detective constable in NBI's Cybercrime Center from 2018.

Sari Latomaa
Sari Latomaa (LL.M.), works as an Inspector for the Cybercrime Exit -Cybercrime Offender Prevention program with the Finnish National Bureau of Investigation. Cybercrime Exit project is a part of special preventive operations of the Police, aiming to prevent cybercrime committed by youth and divert them to legal alternatives. Prior to joining the NBI, Sari has an extensive background in the field of social justice and combatting human trafficking, particularly focusing on preventing exploitation of youth, and the victim-offender intersectionality.
