Hackerspace/Makerspace/Fab Labs/Maker Labs: How to build and sustain a hands-on creative community

Presented at Diana Initiative 2018, Aug. 10, 2018, 1 p.m. (50 minutes)

Interested in continuing your Defcon hacker fun in your home communities? Want to open a community hands-on creativity/tinkering/fabrication space but aren't sure where to start? Join us for a conversation about how a couple of intrepid tinkerers, a few wild ideas, some research funds, and a few key champions helped build a community hackerspace that supports research and technology exploration. Kristen will share some lessons learned and will offer ideas about how you might build and sustain your own hackerspaces.

Presenters:

  • Kristen Tsolis
Kristen Tsolis is Director of the RoboDojo, a Naval Postgraduate School open community venue where “tinkerers” of all abilities can explore and learn more about robotics and electronics. She is also a Lecturer in the Department of Defense Analysis where she teaches officers about geospatial analysis and computer network security. She may someday finish her PhD in Software Engineering.
