Smart toys ain't that Smart, when Insecure!

"In this talk, I will share my experience as an 11 year old kid, playing with and hacking some smart toys. This talk will start by an introduction to the technologies used in smart toys and how secure or insecure they are. The main portion of this talk would cover the tools and steps used by me and my dad in our research. I will also demonstrate how some of these toys can be hacked. in conclusion I will highlight the application of these technologies in the real world and share why it is important to understand these threats that can not only impact a smart toys, but real things that we use daily as well." Cyber Security Ambassador, Child Hacker, Keynote Speaker, Black Belt in Shaolin Do Kung Fu (2nd degree), USA Gymnast, Video-gamer, Cyber Ninja Kid and Christian are some of the titles used to describe Reuben Paul aka ""RAPst4r"", the Founder of CyberShaolin. Now 11 years old, since he was 8 years old, Reuben has been blessed to be accepted by the security community. He is an invited speaker, and has delivered over 10 keynotes in over a dozen talks covering various topics ranging from hacking Bluetooth LE devices, Windows OS, Metasploit, SQL injection, password cracking, hacking mobile devices, malware, and social engineering with live demos. He has co-keynoted at RSA, and has been featured at several industry leading security conferences such as DerbyCon, Hack In The Box (HITB) HaxPo (Netherlands), Houston Security Conference, BSides Austin, Ground Zero InfoSec (India), Security Congress, GeekFest Berlin, Secure Poland and the International One Conference in the Hague. Reuben has been featured as a hacker kid in the media and by several news agencies. His is best known for his talk on weaponizing a smart toy Teddy bear by hacking into it and turning it into a surveillance device. When kids all over the world started to write to him, asking if he could teach them what he is learning, with the help of his parents, Reuben founded CyberShaolin. CyberShaolin is a non-profit organization with the mission to educate, equip and empower kids with the knowledge of cybersecurity dangers and defenses, using videos and games that he develops when he is done with his homework and sports training. Reuben is also honored to become the youngest person in America to have received the Shaolin Do Kung Fu Black Belt. He is currently a 2nd degree black belt. He was the gold medalist in the 2014 USA Gymnastics State competition in the ‘Still Rings' category. When he was two years old, Reuben was also crowned as America's most beautiful baby by New Star Discovery. Reuben has been painted by the renowned artist Eddie Mize for his involvement with security.
