Hack The Gibson: Exploiting Supercomputers

We have had the luxury of spending a good amount of time looking at the security of supercomputers. This presentation will cover our research and demonstrate some of the most interesting and significant vulnerabilities we have uncovered so far. We will also be demonstrating exploits and previously undocumented attack techniques live so you can see how to get root on 20,000 nodes all at once. The material we are covering affects the majority of the top 500 supercomputers. But even if you have never encountered a supercomputer before you'll be surprised how accessible and familiar many of the technologies are. The UNIX crowd amongst you will certainly enjoy seeing interesting exploits against large UNIX environments.

With over 7 years experience in the industry he has had the opportunity to play around with and hack a whole bunch of different technologies. Currently settled on supercomputers for now, past interests include VMware, BlackBerry, IPv6 and anything with a network interface. John has spoken at a number of security events.
