In this talk, Eddie Clark and Matt Clark will provide candid information on what it is like to be a Sales Engineer (SE). Both presenters had been practitioners for many years prior to joining the sales (dark) side. The perception of what a SE does is only a small fraction of what actually occurs. Without getting too personal or providing specific details of our employers’ processes, we will provide details of the necessary skills needed, work life balance, pros, cons, and compensation . The role of an SE can be very rewarding on many levels and this presentation will offer a non-biased, no BS, informed perspective from those that have made the decision to make the move and are currently in the position of an SE. Our hope is that those who may have been interested in becoming an SE will leave the talk with valuable information that will help them to make a more informed decision.

Matt Clark is a seasoned IT professional with 20+ years of experience that's fueled by a passion for security. As a trusted advisor Matt enjoys assisting organizations with adopting & integrating security strategies while helping organizations transform their architectures. Prior to consulting, Matt worked for county and judicial government managing and leading teams to successfully complete projects in various technologies such as security, networking, virtualization, identity, storage, databases, web and support/operations. Matt has been in an SE role for the 11years.

Throughout his career, he has been a System Admin, Network Admin, Security Analyst, and participated and led IR engagements. He has been a Sales Engineer helping organizations in their efforts to become more secure for about 5 years.
