DJ Workshop

Presented at BruCON 0x07 (2015), Oct. 8, 2015, 1 p.m. (60 minutes).

Our conference DJs will teach the finer points of DJing, from the different histories and backgrounds of the different genres, techniques for using different types of hardware. They will share DJ adventure stories of what to do and what not to do, and will make you familiar with the science behind it all. This casual hands-on workshop will leave your brain entranced and your eardrums buzzing, so bring a drink, your curiosity, and let's have some fun.

Presenters:

  • Keith Myers
During the last ten years Keith Myers has focused much of his blood, sweat, and beers into rocking the hardest, most bad ass, kick you in the balls house music you will ever hear. With roots stretched out in the San Francisco rave scene and cyber-trance culture, Keith progressed from playing raves in the early days to performing at sold-out, exclusive club nights in Amsterdam and Las Vegas. Keith graced the A-listers in Las Vegas while playing PURE at Caesars Palace and the Ghost Bar at the top of the Palms. Recently spotted playing alongside some of the worlds greatest DJs, Keith Myers rocked the floor at FUR in Washington DC with George Acosta and held it down in Amsterdam playing with Plump DJs at one of Europe's hottest venues, the Melkweg. And being no stranger to superstar talent, Keith violently smashed the house with the late and great DJ AM at LAX. Keith has also been spotted spending the hot nights in Vegas playing sexy venues like Playboy Pool at the Palms. The last Keith Myers Mix CD titled “Industry” was recently independently released and sold over 5500 copies in it’s first 90 days. Keith love’s spending time in the studio working on numerous remix projects with his buddy Count Ninjula. They recently tested a few of these out for 6000 excited fans at the top of the Riviera at the Freakshow event in Las Vegas. And in a blaze one of Keith’s favorite nights he shared the stage with Infected Mushroom while playing at the entire outdoor event space (all the pools) at the RIO for 8500 people at DEFCON. And on the Asia front, Keith headed to Taiwan and played four sold out shows across the island including headlining Kaohsiung’s spectacular nightclub Brickyard for their annual winter party. Keith is professional, on-time, and drama free.
  • Ninjula
Ninjula is a DJ. Sometimes he likes to rock the party. By "sometimes" I mean all the time. Also, he makes music. A quick search in your favorite search engine will show you all kinds of things about Ninjula. Maybe you'd like to follow him on twitter, maybe you'd like to buy his songs on beatport or itunes, or maybe you just want to hear his Unreasonably Hard mixes on MixCloud. All of these things (and more!!!) can be accomplished using the wonderful powers of the internet.
  • Ocean Lam
Twisting her listeners through deep techno sounds to warm house tracks, as dub techno chords, pumping basslines and delicate vocals drift together, Ocean’s music is simple but moody, favoring human feelings over machine-like clicks and pops. In only a few short years since her 2008 debut, Ocean Lam has positioned herself as one of the leaders in Hong Kong’s electronic music scene. A former resident at Yumla, she has moved on to start two successful and distinctly different monthly nights at the famed Bassment Bar: FoxTrot, an all-female DJ night grounded in fun vibes; and Humdrum Hong Kong House and Techno, hosting international stalwarts including Ryan Elliott, Deetron, Dirt Crew, Dave DK, Glitterbug, I-Robots, and Spieltape, to name but a few. Outside of her own Hong Kong events, Ocean has been the go-to choice to support other international names like Jimpster, Efdemin, Namito, Luke Hess, Till von Sein, Technasia and Marko Fürstenberg. She has had headlining slots at Hong Kong’s biggest music festival, Clockenflap, for three years running, and has been booked for corporate events for global brands such as Chanel and Dolce & Gabbana. Her performances abroad in places like Renate (Berlin), Sweden, Beijing and Thailand as well as her recent releases on Beatport have given the world a reason to keep an ear towards Hong Kong’s blossoming electronic underground. Since 2010 she’s released two singles on Yumla Records, “Weirdos” and “Is All She Wants”, as well as 2013’s “Loosen Up”, released on Typhoon 8 Records. 2014 will see Ocean move on from the Humdrum collective to launch her solo event “Hypnotic”, complementing her semi-regular podcast of the same name.
